Flexible purchasing is a contractual framework with an energy supplier that is best suited for customers with a usage of 2GWh (2 Million kWh) or more, but this does not exclude consumptions below that point, as there are supplier-specific products that bridge the gap between a Fully Fixed Price and a Flexible Contract.
A “Flex” contract allows you to make purchasing decisions throughout the duration of the agreement, taking advantage of market fluctuations and protecting you against market increases. Flex contracts effectively remove the risk from the supplier and place it with the customer, but by working with our procurement specialists and devising a solid procurement strategy, the risk can be significantly mitigated.
Flex contracts provide a higher energy-consuming client the opportunity to make decisions that are dictated by the business needs throughout the year or based on fluctuations within the global economy.
Our team at eyebright has extensive experience working with different sectors and different flex arrangements, helping devise and implement procurement strategies suited to a client’s risk profile.
These are just some of the reasons our energy-intensive customers choose a flexible purchasing agreement:
Control over your budget.
Customisation in the terms of your agreement relative to your needs.
Depending on your attitude to risk your non-commodity costs can be fixed, passed- through or a combination of both.
Decision making power on your renewable and NetZero strategy.
Capability to meet compliance obligation.
Extensive purchasing strategies allowing you to procure on a cycle that suits your strategy.
Ability to sleeve existing or new PPA volume.
All supported by our in-house, market-leading reporting solutions.
Every business we support wants to ensure they’re receiving the best possible energy contract at the lowest possible price. We have over 30 direct relationships with suppliers and can ensure you are given transparent advice, but what else can we do for you? Do you want to relieve the pressure of complex administration? Can we help you with compliance and regulatory services? Are you being overcharged for water contracts? Do you want to actively manage your utilities with a flexible procurement strategy or have ambitions of reaching NetZero before 2050?
We can help you and your organisation.
The UK government launched the Energy Bill Relief Scheme on 1st October 2022 to help organisations with the rising cost of energy. The Energy Bill Relief Scheme offers a discount on the wholesale gas and electricity prices non-domestic customers pay. The scheme is due to end on the 31st March 2023.
The government recognised that further support was required, so the new Energy Bills Discount Scheme (EBDS) will run from the 1st April 2023 for 12 months. The new scheme will mean businesses, public sector institutions and voluntary organisations will receive a per unit discount on their energy bill, if the wholesale price is above the threshold level. The discounts are:
• Electricity – £19.61 per megawatt hour (MWh) with a price threshold of £302 per MWh.
• Gas – £6.97 per MWh with a price threshold of £107 per MWh
Organisations that meet the Energy and Trade Intensive Industries (ETIIs) criteria will receive a greater discount to ensure they remain competitive. These are typically energy-intensive businesses (manufacturing, food and beverage production and mining and metals sites). Organisations that meet the criteria will have the discount applied to 70% of their energy usage and the maximum discount and thresholds are:
• Electricity – £89 per MWh with a price threshold of £185 per MWh
• Gas – £40 per MWh with a price threshold of £99 per MWh
